Color Walk

Dreaming in Color

Wella Professionals’ Eva Scrivo dreams up a new set of rules for haircolor on the Catherine Malandrino catwalk.

“I gave to a pink the nerve of a red. A neon pink; an unreal pink—shocking pink.” So purred surrealist fashion designer Elsa Schiaparelli—who in the ‘30s introduced the fashion world to that electrifying hue, hot pink, and partnered with artist Salvador Dali to transform a shoe into a hat.

Dye Girls

Wella brings chroma- consciousness to the runway tress set at Catherine Malandrino.

In the backstage mêlée during Fashion Week, pigment-pushing is relegated mostly to the face—makeup artists deal in many tinted splendors, but hair gurus tend to keep the dye stuff out of the picture. (Think of the mess! Think of the processing time!) Yet, backstage at Catherine Malandrino’s spring showing, a colorista stands proudly, herself a beacon of bright color in a vivid magenta dress.

Platinum Color Holders

Platinum Color Holders

Nixing gold for platinum, the fashion world’s most brazen beauties lighten up.

Reaching for the bleach seems to be a model's spring/summer 2010 catwalk right of passage. Even established lookers Raquel Zimmermann (who heralded the trend), Jessica Stam and Vlada Roslyakova took their strands to a paler shade of blonde. But it's newbies Dree Hemingway and Ginta Lapina whose iced haircolor got them noticed?
